Project no. 2 - Healthcare

For this healthcare project I designed a three-level facility that will encompass the services of an Urgent Care, an Emergency Department, Short-Term Rehabilitation as well as a specialty area on the third floor. My specialty area is a cancer infusion treatment + research center. The location of this facility is on the Carolinas Medical Center Northeast campus located in Concord, NC. This project was based on the research of supportive design as well as the idea of connecting patients to the outdoors. The concept for the space is the act of climbing a mountain which symbolizes a patient overcoming their injuries. I reflected this through my design within the color palette and materials. I also incorporated an abundance of natural daylighting through large exterior windows in the common spaces as well as some treatment areas in order to allow patients to connect with their surroundings and remind them that there is more to life outside of their sickness.
